Eating Disorders: “Thinking Outside the Box”
One Year Course: October 2010 – June 2011
Instructors:
The LAISPS year long course in eating disorders will explore the underlying issues and function of eating disorders, specifically anorexia nervosa and bulimia. The dilemma of making the unconscious conscious while attending to the often life threatening symptoms that accompany the eating disorder will be presented.
Each evening will consist of a theoretical class on eating disorders and a class on clinical technique. Over the thirty-week course, we will cover the major theories on the development of eating disorders, the medical risks and complications, the unconscious effort to control and cope with developmental trauma and some of the personality disorders in patients with eating disorders. We will incorporate techniques on how to work with the specific treatment issues of this population such as the patient’s resistance to treatment, transference and countertransference. Treating eating disorder patients with personality disorders will also be included.
The course includes an optional ten-week case conference with Dr. Susan Krevoy.
A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants upon their completion of thirty meetings.
